"Rae" is the ultimate example of the successful cross of western-style horses with Thoroughbreds. This gorgeous black & white mare has a dainty, pretty head, long straight legs, and an outstanding heart girth. She also has a nice, round hip – the Quarter Horse's hallmark "apple butt"! She is strikingly marked from tip to toe, with one set of white lashes, and one set of black lashes. And although she is the "head mare" of the herd, she has the typical, gentle Quarter Horse disposition – though few are loath to cross her at mealtimes! Here at home, she's also renowned for her vocal expressiveness, displaying her opinion with a wide array of snorting, squealing and grunting notations. Hence her nickname: Monica Sellers!

The Paint Horse side of her pedigree is filled with World Champions, ultimately traced back to Blue Max, a very influential black overo sire. Her full brother, at only two years of age, has already earned 20 Hunter Under Saddle points and his Register of Merit at APHA shows in the US. We're looking forward to getting "Rae" in the show ring here in RSA so she can continue her family's winning tradition.

Rae's genetics are also special, in part, because she is vividly marked. Preliminary testing from UC Davies showed that she was negative for the frame gene. An additional test to confirm is forthcoming, as if the initial results are correct, it would make the sabino gene responsible for her pattern. The sabino gene, which is more usually manifested in a more modest form. This makes her an ideal breeding candidate for breeding with Pueblo. A combination of these two should produce a high (75%+) of coloured progeny.

Rae is is amazingly well-muscled and big-boned. With her powerful, agile body, Rae is an excellent match for a towering Thoroughbred stallion, yielding a foal with potential for height, and the power to take on the jumps! She also tracks up beautifully at the walk and trot, with a lovely canter.
